Why watch this film?

Following Disney's footsteps in giving a new live-action format to classic children's stories, this independent production with a great cast comes to tell the origin of Alice and Peter Pan. In the style of 'Wendy', 'Mirror Mirror' and 'Snow White and the Huntsman', the feature film 'Come Away' tells the story of two children (Keira Chansa and Jordan A. Nash) and their parents (Angelina Jolie and David Oyelowo). They live in a bucolic setting, where the forests in the backyard serve as the scenery for adventures born from imagination - sword fighting, the boat that houses pirates and so on. Things get out of hand, however, when death knocks on the door. Grief falls upon this family. Thus, the two children enter even more into the world of imagination to escape the pain and, soon, they start taking shape the way we know them. The beautiful aesthetics of the movie is the highlight, besides the soundtrack almost entirely made on the flute, with strong medieval tones. However, Marissa Kate Goodhill's screenplay, a debutant in features, drops any opportunity for the movie to grow in strength and importance. Slow, confusing and too contemplative, it seems there is no room for the viewer's imagination - which just serves as the audience of someone else's imagination, never really being provoked and challenged by director Brenda Chapman (from 'Brave'). Still, an interesting movie for those who are fans of fairy tales reinterpreted on the screens.
