Why watch this film?

Outside, the image of Cuban Olympic athletes still persists as national heroes who overcame their country's great adversities to stand out abroad. But, as with everything, the truth tends to be more complex. 'La Arrancada', a documentary by Brazilian filmmaker Aldemar Matias premiering at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival, focuses on a young athlete, her family dynamics, her ambitions and uncertainties to portray a reality that is not so simple behind the Cuban romantic ideal of the athlete.
