Why watch this film?

Competing in the Best International Film and Best Documentary categories at the 2021 Oscars, 'Colectiv' is a sad movie. After all, it follows the story of hundreds of young people, packed into one place, dancing, drinking and having fun. Suddenly, however, a fire quickly takes over the nightclub. The young people try to run, but they can't. They panic and pile up. And, as a result, dozens die. Another dozen are hospitalized - similar to what happened at the Kiss nightclub. Directed and written by Alexander Nanau, the film is one of those that leaves you feeling down for the rest of the day. After all, the filmmaker does not spare the audience from sad and desperate scenes of the tragedy. In addition, as a complement to the story, Nanau does a powerful investigative work by showing how, more than the fire, corruption and neglect of the public power ended up being responsible for killing a large number of people. It is, thus, a historical document, but also a protest film that shows the backstage of the tragedy, showing how, often, the crime has even deeper layers.
