Why watch this film?

Directed by Mexican documentarian Jacaranda Correa, 'Morir de Pie' is a powerful story of someone who, knowing their time on Earth is short, chooses to live their life on their own terms, as revolutionary as their commitment as a young communist activist. The protagonist is Irina Layevska Echeverría Gaytán, a trans woman who decides to make her gender transition in the face of an advancing chronic degenerative disease that has been troubling her for years. A complete and empathetic portrait, similar to Roberto Fiesco's documentary that would come later, 'Quebranto'.
