Why watch this film?

How painful, and somewhat tragic, is this 'Una ventana al mar'. Directed by Miguel Ángel Jiménez (of 'Chaika'), the feature film tells the story of a woman who, even after being diagnosed with cancer, maintains her plan to travel with two other friends to Greece. But upon arriving there, Maria (Emma Suárez) sees her life change. She meets a Greek fisherman (Akilas Karazisis), who speaks fluent Spanish, and they fall in love. And then Maria is in a dilemma: either return to Spain to continue her chemotherapy treatment or stay in Greece with her new love and enjoy her last months of life with new joy. It is a powerful dilemma that Jiménez skillfully puts on the screen. With good performance from Suárez, the feature film gains powerful layers, in dramatic terms, while we see this woman so divided - the son and chemotherapy on one side, the new love on the other. It is a difficult decision, but it puts the character in an uncomfortable and even new situation. The most interesting, however, is how the direction and script bring narrative elements that make up 'Una ventana al mar', going beyond just a tragic love story. It is not tragedy for tragedy. It is a beautiful and poetic drama about mourning and, above all, about life - how it should be felt, enjoyed, understood.
