Queen Bees

An independent senior moves into a retirement community, encountering mean girls and finding new love.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

"Queen Bees" is a comedy film starring acclaimed actress Ellen Burstyn ("Requiem for a Dream") that tells the story of independent Helen, an elderly woman who, after her house begins to be renovated, temporarily moves into a retirement home. Within the Pine Grove Community, she surprisingly finds a hostile environment, with other elderly people behaving like "mean girls" from high school. But over time, Helen realizes that it is possible to find new friendships in Pine Grove and even fall in love again. An interesting curiosity is that the film is inspired by the story of the producer's grandfather Harrison Powell, a widow who entered an elderly community and ended up finding a second chance in love. The feature is light, funny and contains one of the most talented actresses of her generation as the protagonist, in addition to creating a situational comedy with the elderly, which is not usually so common.

Plot summary

While her house undergoes repairs, fiercely independent senior Helen reluctantly moves into a nearby retirement community — just temporarily. Once at Pine Grove Senior Community, she encounters feisty widows, cutthroat bridge tournaments and a group of bullying "mean girls" that reminds her of high school and has her yearning to go home. But somewhere between flower arranging and water aerobics Helen discovers that it's never too late to make new friends and perhaps even find a new love. A heartwarming and humorous look at life's second act.
