Why watch this film?

If you like curious and unusual stories, 'Uncle Tommy: The Man Who Founded Newsweek' is a feast. The Brazilian documentary tells the story of Thomas John Cardell Martyn, a British pilot and journalist who founded Newsweek, an American weekly news magazine. And what does he have to do with Brazil, to get a whole national production? Here's the kicker: Thomas is buried in Agrolândia, in Santa Catarina. That's right. The documentary then examines the journey of this man who, after fighting in World War I and living with figures like Scott Fitzgerald and Nelson Rockefeller, ended up in this little Brazilian town. A curious movie, to say the least.
