Why watch this film?
Directed by Mexican filmmaker Álvaro Curiel (of the award-winning "Marioneta" and "Acorazado"), "Tú eres mi problema" is a dramedy in the style of a road movie, telling the story of an impulsive teenager (debut actor Santiago Barajas) who clashes with his mother (Bárbara Mori). He is expelled from school just as she is about to make a big step in her career, causing tension between them. The young man runs away from home to look for his estranged father, and she follows him, leading to a car journey together during which they will discover things about themselves and reconnect. Within the road movie subgenre, "Tú eres mi problema" may be somewhat conventional, but it is a good movie that stands out not only for its great cinematography, but also because, instead of relying on the typical easy-going humor of recent Mexican comedies, it opts to subtly develop the dynamics between a single mother and a son looking for a masculine role model to follow. A good choice for those seeking light yet well-made entertainment.
