City of Men

Two friends discover dark secrets about their fathers' pasts amidst a drug war in Rio's favelas.

Trailer

Why watch this film?

The TV series 'City of Men' was a spin-off of the feature film 'City of God': Darlan Cunha and Douglas Silva, non-actors with prominent roles in the feature film, were called to play Laranjinha and Acerola - two young men living the difficulties and (occasionally) joys of living in a contemporary community of Rio de Janeiro. In 2007, the story got a final chapter, which arrived in cinemas as the homonymous film. Here, the two reach adulthood and, in the midst of a story of maturation, must deal with the explosion of the drug war in Morro da Sinuca. The result is a production that, on the one hand is brutal for exposing the violence and lack of prospects of youth in the slums, but is also touching in a tale with which we can all relate.
