Why watch this film?

After its debut in 1999, 'Sexo, Pudor y Lágrimas' became one of the highest grossing Mexican films in history, becoming not only a financial milestone for the country's cinema (marking the beginning of the so-called New Mexican Cinema, along with 'Amores Perros'), but also a cultural one, bringing topics still considered taboos to Mexican society, such as infidelity and extramarital sex. Few may have expected (or asked for) a sequel, but 'Sexo, Pudor y Lágrimas 2' is interesting for continuing its themes in a contemporary context, where sex can be public in the digital world, but true intimacy is hard to come by. The film brings back the original cast (Cecilia Suárez, Susana Zabaleta, Víctor Huggo Martín, Mónica Dionne and Jorge Salinas), and includes young renowned actors to thus compose a new dynamic between the characters.

Plot summary

Twenty years have passed since those two apartments in the heart of Mexico City were the battlefield of a war of the sexes between Ana, Carlos, Andrea, Miguel, Tomás and María. All that is left of those apartments are memories and the image of Tomás' dead body at the bottom of the elevator shaft. Their lives have changed, their families have grown and new and unexpected characters have come to unsettle their daily lives and trigger a chain of events that will make them realize that modesty has been replaced by public disclosure; sex is only an app away; but love...love is still something elusive that everyone in today's banal and chaotic world is seeking.
