After the murder of Cintia, 19, her mother and older sister begin to explore their own lives marked by abusive relationships with their partners, trying to find an explanation for the crime and a new meaning to their lives.
"Unfortunately, Mexico has been going through a deep crisis of femicides for years that seems to have no end. ‘Niña sola’, directed by Javier Ávila, is a documentary built upon two vital testimonies: those of Arcelia and Berta, mother and sister respectively of Cintia, a girl murdered in 2016 amid the indifference of the authorities of Tijuana, Baja California. The two women reflect on the gender-based violence that is present in their lives as it was in Cintia's, revealing the systemic nature of the problem. It is a heartbreaking, yet essential story to witness if we want to understand the magnitude of the issue and begin to work on its solutions."
