Niña sola

A mother and sister struggle to understand their abusive relationships after the murder of their daughter/sister.

Why watch this film?

Unfortunately, Mexico has been going through a deep crisis of femicides for years that seems to have no end. ‘Niña sola’, directed by Javier Ávila, is a documentary built upon two vital testimonies: those of Arcelia and Berta, mother and sister respectively of Cintia, a girl murdered in 2016 amid the indifference of the authorities of Tijuana, Baja California. The two women reflect on the gender-based violence that is present in their lives as it was in Cintia's, revealing the systemic nature of the problem. It is a heartbreaking, yet essential story to witness if we want to understand the magnitude of the issue and begin to work on its solutions.
