Don't let the pun in the title fool you: here is a great work of Brazilian cinema, with a lot of intelligence in its approach of a theme still rarely explored by the seventh art, in the country.

The filmmaker Aly Muritiba has established himself as one of the most interesting and diverse voices in national cinema. He speaks about youth, relationships, and the pains of the periphery like no one else, as evidenced in films such as 'Ferrugem', 'Para Minha Amada Morta' and the exceptional short film 'A Fábrica'. In 'Nóis por Nóis', meanwhile, he joins first-time director Jandir Santin to talk about a subject that is as current as it is painful: police violence against black and peripheral communities. Directly to the point, and directly addressing newsworthy topics, the feature film shows the power of young people's protest and how this rotten power relationship between officers and the population works. Although with excesses and some artificial scenes, 'Nóis por Nóis' surprises by touching on some thorny issues and helping to expose this open wound that has been around for so long in society.
Private Desert
Directed by Aly Muritiba (For My Beloved Dead, Rust), Deserto Particular is an introspective and sensitive film that unfolds carefully in its nuances. The story is about Daniel, a police officer suspended from work for misconduct who maintains a relationship through messages with Sara. Without work, at the same time that the girl stops responding to him, he finds himself without perspective, lost in his life. He then decides in a moment of impulse to travel after the girl, leaving behind what little he has for an image he idealizes. Sara is also in a moment of disillusionment and search, she finds herself lost in her own world, trying to find what belongs to her. The meeting of the two is crucial for them to discover, understand each other and know how to move forward, finding the courage to leave the place. It is a film about understanding, self-knowledge and reflection, honest and raw, which manages to express and understand certain feelings that are particular to our Brazilian reality.

It doesn't present reflections that aren't obvious to those who have read books or watched other films about the impact of social media, but it's a good starting point to learn about how misinformation works on the internet.
Girls State
Directing duo Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss, known for the award-winning documentary Boys State, return now for Girls State. But it would be a mistake to say it's just a female version of the first documentary. Through a select group of girls participating in a federal government simulation in Missouri, this film reveals, firstly, how American politics operates. But secondly, and more importantly, it explores how an environment supposedly empowering girls can both propel and limit them at the same time, raising questions about what we understand about power and the ways to exercise it.
Earth Protectors
Documentaries about the climate crisis are never too many, but sometimes it can be challenging to find one that presents its arguments in a different and memorable way. Earth Protectors is a worthy attempt. Directed by French artist and environmental activist Anne de Carbuccia, it artistically documents her 10-year journey around the world exploring the impact of climate change in various countries, as well as the solutions undertaken to empower global citizens and address the crisis. At times, de Carbuccia and her works take more prominence than necessary, but she manages to present vital information.
