Why watch this film?
"In Her Hands", directed by Marcel Mettelsiefen and Tamana Ayazi, is a documentary that follows Zarifa Ghafari, the youngest mayor of Afghanistan who, months after being sworn in, sees the capital Kabul fall under the repressive and conservative regime of the Taliban after the withdrawal of American forces. Unfortunately, the documentary is very superficial. It can be moving due to its context - which is usually only implicit - but it is a production created from and for the Western perspective that, without certain nuances and complexities, only works as a basic entry point to know the Afghanistan dominated by the Taliban.
