Why watch this film?
Twenty years after the original movie starring Eddie Murphy, Haunted Mansion hit the theaters with the proposal to inject a fresh look (and more excitement) into this story inspired by the classic Disney park attraction. All the elements are there – Madame Leota, the story of the 999 ghosts, and the tale of the ghost tormented by the death of his wife. However, director Justin Simien (Dear White People, from Netflix) seeks new horizons by incorporating much of New Orleans culture into the story and, above all, not focusing solely on comedy (as was the case with the 2003 film) to bring more adventure and terror aspects, although it remains a children's movie. Many things work, many others do not (such as LaKeith Stanfield attempting humor). Nevertheless, it is a film for kids who will surely feel the emotions running high.

Robot Dreams
Sometimes we get so carried away by the marketing power of studios like Disney Pixar, and we overlook other avenues for deep and powerful animated stories that don't need excessively complex plots to evoke emotions. Such is the case with Robot Dreams, a Hispanic-French production directed by Pablo Berger (2012’s Snow White), based on the eponymous graphic novel by Sara Varon. Set in New York during the 80s, the story follows Dog, whose solitary life leads him to buy a robot for companionship. Their friendship grows, but an unfortunate day at the beach forces them to separate and long for the day of their reunion. Virtually without dialogue, with vibrant animation and a captivating visual language, the film tells a simple yet profoundly moving story about (curiously) human relationships and the course they take despite (or because of) accidents, fortuitous circumstances, and uncontrollable events that happen throughout life.
