There’s an unfortunate cliché (and it still persists) in many slasher horror films, where racially diverse characters often end up being the first to die in the narrative, serving as cannon fodder. Inspired by the success of Jordan Peele's 'Get Out,' 'The Blackening' is a horror comedy that starts from a simple yet incisive premise: if all the characters are black, who should die first? Thus, we follow a group of friends on a weekend getaway to a remote cabin in the woods, where they are trapped and subjected to a cruel survival game. With wit, the movie raises important questions about race and intersectionality while satirizing the perpetuation of intrinsic racism in American society and popular culture. It's a great choice if you enjoy self-aware horror films like Scream, Cabin in the Woods, to name a few examples.

If you are a fan of blaxploitation cinema from the 1970s, then you're certainly familiar with the name 'Shaft'. This new movie is a continuation of this legacy, after all it brings together the three generations of the hero: Richard Roundtree, who played the character in the first movie; Samuel L. Jackson, who continues the family legacy in the 2000 feature; and Jessie T. Usher, who takes on the role of John Shaft III. Although the production has lots of action and repeats the style of its predecessors, the criticism was very hard with the final result, classifying it as "outdated". Still, it's worth checking out - especially if you're a fan of the characters, actors or still the cinema of the 1970s.
Tom and Jerry
Following the line of new looks that Warner Bros. is giving to classic cartoons from its portfolio, such as 'Scooby! The Movie', the feature film 'Tom and Jerry' has a clear goal: to modernize the story of the most famous cat and mouse in American pop culture history. And despite some stumbles, director Tim Story (of the infamous 'Fantastic Four' and 'Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer') manages to extract some good moments and value the characters. However, a warning to fans of other times and nostalgics: 'Tom and Jerry: The Movie' reveres the original cartoon, but it's keeping an eye on the little ones, the young audience, who may not even know who Tom and Jerry are.

A Brighter Tomorrow
Italian filmmaker Nanni Moretti (winner of the Palme d'Or in 2001 for The Son's Room) returns with what has been called his 8½, for obvious reasons. A Brighter Tomorrow is the story of a filmmaker struggling to shoot a movie about the Hungarian Revolution, while trying to save his marriage to his producer wife. The film satirizes the current state of cinema, and perhaps indulges a bit too much in its nostalgia. It is far from the best that veteran Moretti has to offer, but if you've enjoyed his previous films, you will undoubtedly enjoy this one.

Club Zero
Club Zero is a film with a risky proposition: to understand how young people, especially those of Generation Z, dive headfirst into new trends to feel like they belong to something. But at what cost? That's what this complicated film by Jessica Hausner (Little Joe) seeks to understand. Complicated, not because it has any complexity, but because it tackles a thorny issue (this particular behavior) and further complicates it by addressing eating disorders, with young people stopping eating for the sake of a better world. With not much material to discuss, the film ends up going in circles and dangerously falling into emptiness. However, Hausner still manages to find some space to reflect on where the world is heading and, above all, where this dangerous herd behavior is taking us — something that, ultimately, the film itself ends up embracing by adhering to trends reminiscent of Wes Anderson's style and Greek cinema aesthetics.

The film tells the story of Luiz Antônio, a clumsy radio presenter who, unexpectedly, finds himself in charge of a bankrupt and falling apart radio station. Relying only on his passion for rock’n’roll and a crazy team, he created one of the most emblematic radio stations in the history of Brazilian rock, Fluminense FM. Between guitar solos and signal interference, we follow the adventures and misadventures of Luiz who, on top of that, falls in love with a married announcer.
