Why watch this film?
Among so many horror productions, it's challenging to stand out with a compelling plot or enough audiovisual creativity. It's also difficult to achieve the delicate balance between humor and violence to create an effective horror comedy. After some failed experiments (even in other genres), director Eli Roth (Hostel) returns to his roots—and basics—with a feast of gore and twisted yet effective humor. In Thanksgiving, a tragedy during Black Friday prompts the appearance of a serial killer inspired by the American holiday. As victims of his violent crimes begin to emerge in a Massachusetts town, the townspeople must uncover his identity before it's too late. A familiar story, yes, but with witty social commentary and, above all, a level of violence as extreme as it is ridiculous and entertaining, sure to satisfy fans of gore and the director.

Plot summary

Death Wish
Remake of the classic 1974 film 'Death Wish'. This time, the role that marked Charles Bronson's career is now played by Bruce Willis: a man whose own family is attacked and goes on a quest for revenge. However, in the original, Paul Kersey was an architect - and now a doctor. That's not all that has changed: the story borrows many elements from anti-heroes like The Punisher, looking to ride the wave of superhero movies. The result is a feature film that loses all that social register and story of a dark time on the streets of America's major cities, which earned harsh criticism from the press. Even so, it will appeal to Bruce Willis fans or fans of vigilante films.
The House With a Clock In Its Walls
Eli Roth (from 'The Hostel') combines terror, adventure, fantasy and comedy in this movie, based on the book of the same name written by John Bellairs. The production is from Amblim, from Steven Spielberg. The strong points of the adaptation are the great special effects and the cast, with Jack Black, Cate Blanchett and Roth himself. All this to present an encouraging and overcoming message, great for children, although the feature film does not reach its maximum potential.

The Nightman a dramatic thriller that explores the dangerous boundary between love and darkness. The story follows a young pregnant woman who begins to question the perfection of her boyfriend upon discovering his possible involvement in mysterious disappearances and murders, linked to his sleepwalking behavior. With praised performances and precise direction, the film delves into complex themes of relationships and personal dilemmas, keeping the audience engaged in its dark suspense.
Abigail
Abigail demonstrates why we should keep an eye on the director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, especially when they have original material at their disposal (they also directed Scream 5 and 6, with mixed results). Abigail is a film that manages to balance the terror and tragedy of its characters with the absurdity of its premise, thanks to a clever script that plays with the conventions of vampire literature, careful direction, and a phenomenal cast (led by Mexican actress Melissa Barrera and Dan Stevens) that fully utilizes their roles. The plot follows a group of kidnappers tasked with a delicate job: to kidnap a millionaire's daughter for ransom. However, it all turns out to be a trap: beneath the guise of a 12-year-old girl, the victim is actually an ancient vampire who likes to play with her food. Like Ready or Not in its time, this film is self-aware, pushing its story and violence to the most absurd and fun limits without falling into self-parody. It won’t change the history of horror cinema, but it’s an excellent (and even stylish for a film of its genre, I dare say) choice for a fun time at the movies with friends.
