With humor and hyper-realism, the documentary by directors Mariano Cohn & Gastón Duprat (of 'The Distinguished Citizen') uses a barbecue to dive into the culture of the Gauchos, mainly those from Argentina (but they are also characteristic of Uruguay and Rio Grande do Sul). The characters depicted are as delicious as the "asados" from Buenos Aires.

A great satire about actors and movie directors with excellent performances by Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas and Oscar Martínez. 'Competencia Oficial' tells the comical events of an entrepreneur who hires a filmmaker to help him make a successful movie. The production approaches in a way how actors prepare for a feature film, which is intriguing and serves as a starting point to create a hostile environment between the characters. It's a good movie that not only serves as a distraction, but also takes us a bit deeper into the process that leads to production. 'Competencia Oficial' was screened at the 2021 Venice Film Festival and entered the competition for the Golden Lion.

But it would be a mistake to say it's just a female version of the first documentary. Through a select group of girls participating in a federal government simulation in Missouri, this film reveals, firstly, how American politics operates. But secondly, and more importantly, it explores how an environment supposedly empowering girls can both propel and limit them at the same time, raising questions about what we understand about power and the ways to exercise it.

Documentaries about the climate crisis are never too many, but sometimes it can be challenging to find one that presents its arguments in a different and memorable way. Earth Protectors is a worthy attempt. Directed by French artist and environmental activist Anne de Carbuccia, it artistically documents her 10-year journey around the world exploring the impact of climate change in various countries, as well as the solutions undertaken to empower global citizens and address the crisis. At times, de Carbuccia and her works take more prominence than necessary, but she manages to present vital information.
