With a budget of $60 million, Alien vs. Predator tells the story of a group of scientists who discover a pyramid in Antarctica. What they couldn't have imagined was that the location served as a shelter for two dangerous and violent alien races. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil), the film is the third appearance for the Predator character and the fifth for the Alien. In addition to being a good crossover, the plot captivates the audience with great action sequences and special effects.

Plot summary

Monster Hunter
"Monster Hunter" is one of those movies that gives the feeling that it's "bad, but could be much worse". After all, filmmaker Paul W. S. Anderson, known for works like "Pompeii" and "Resident Evil", takes on the responsibility of adapting yet another video game to the big screen. Again, as with almost all adaptations of this type, there is not the same strength that is seen in the story as when we control everything with the video game console - there is a lack of interactivity, urgency of situations and the like. In addition, the script has clear limitations and often causes embarrassment, such as at the moment of advertising a chocolate brand. Still, however, the fun is guaranteed with "Monster Hunter". Those who are not looking for a new "Mad Max" and are content with a movie in the best Michael Bay style will have a few laughs, scares and embark on the journey of a military (Milla Jovovich, director's wife) trying to survive in a parallel reality populated by monsters. Forget the problems for 1h40, pop the popcorn and have a good time.
Resident Evil
Released in 2002, 'Resident Evil' sparked the worthy zombie apocalypse in the cinematic universe. The genre had been dormant and came back with a bang with the adaptation of Capcom's games, which followed the same line and became a franchise with six movies, all starring Milla Jovovich. The movie is a horror film with great action sequences, perhaps one of the best works of director Paul W. S. Anderson. In the plot, Alice (Jovovich) has the mission to destroy a genetic laboratory operated by the powerful Umbrella corporation, where a virus has been disseminated, which turns all its victims into zombies. With the help of a team, she has only three hours to prevent the virus from spreading around the world.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is the fourth attempt to bring the "red one" to the big screen — two of which were well-received, directed by Guillermo del Toro. In this one, director Brian Taylor works closely with Mike Mignola, the character's creator, to make a smaller film: clearly, there’s a lower budget, reducing the space Hellboy occupies. It’s a more contained and less megalomaniac film, heavily inspired by folk horror. At the same time, it is also a much stranger film than the previous ones: Hellboy is more disillusioned, not believing in life, and somewhat more passive. This may be the weakest adaptation of the four, mainly due to the lack of money to make something good — the digitally created spider and raccoon look like they’re from a 2000s video game. Still, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is a good attempt that aims to change the tone of the franchise and show that there is something interesting out there.
Dry Ground Burning

Living in constant opposition to Jair Bolsonaro’s fiercely authoritarian and militarized government, Chitara’s women claim the streets for themselves as a declaration of radical political resistance on behalf of ex-cons and the oppressed.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Set in Middle-earth 60 years before the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy, the adventure follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of dwarves on a journey into wild, treacherous lands swarming with beasts of every ilk. Although their goal lies to the East, they must first escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever...Gollum. Alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo gains possession of Gollum's "precious" -- a simple, gold ring tied to the fate of all Middle-earth.
Borderlands
Borderlands is a movie that was talked about for a long time but seemed to never get off the ground—the success of the video game was enticing, but the curse surrounding video game-based movies seemed heavier. That was until, in a rather unlikely turn of events, filmmaker Eli Roth (Hostel) took the lead on the project. In fact, "unlikely" is an adjective that works well for this title: not only is it surprising that it got off the ground, but much of the cast seems out of place here (especially Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis). The story, after all, is outrageous: a group of mercenaries must rescue the daughter of a powerful man while there's a race to find a treasure on a planet at the edge of the galaxy. Fun, though exaggerated in its tone, the movie oscillates between a children's audience and science fiction for Star Wars fans at every moment, never quite knowing which side to lean towards. Still, it should entertain those looking for an unpretentious and laid-back space opera, without worrying about creating very complex worlds and universes—besides all the surprise with Blanchett, in her most bizarre role to date.
