Why watch this film?
Sally Potter ("Orlando, The Immortal Woman") offers us a sophisticated comedy that is short (only 70 minutes) and takes place in a short time span. All this to criticise high society with good humor. The cast is also small, but includes names like Timothy Spall ("Denial"), Kristin Scott Thomas ("The English Patient"), Cillian Murphy ("Inception"), and Patricia Clarkson ("Far From Heaven"). An interesting movie to watch in our current political situation.

Plot summary
Janet is hosting an intimate gathering of friends in her London home to celebrate her political ascension, while her husband, Bill, seems preoccupied. Janet’s acerbic best friend, April, arrives and others follow, some with their own dramatic news to share, but an announcement by Bill provokes a series of revelations that gradually unravel the sophisticated soiree, and a night that began with champagne may end with gunplay.

The Roads Not Taken
"The Roads Not Taken" is a complicated movie. Directed by British Sally Potter (of the exceptional "Ginger & Rosa"), this feature film had a mixed reception from both audiences and critics - and it's no wonder. After all, with a strange and original development, the production follows 24 turbulent hours in the life of a father and daughter (Javier Bardem and Elle Fanning), while she deals with the challenges of the patriarch's seemingly chaotic mental state, walking through the city of New York. The performances of the duo of protagonists are powerful and daring, playing with the feelings of the characters and the spectators all the time. However, the rhythm of the film is not the most interesting. After all, instead of following a chaotic style, like "Rough Gems", Potter opts to put the feature film on a strange path, transitioning between an exaggerated slowness and some moments not very cohesive with the rest of the narrative. Not to mention the somewhat strange and abrupt ending, which can further alienate a large part of the audience. But that's it: in general, it's a different movie and it needs the viewer to buy the different idea.
