Plot summary
The Battered Bastards of Baseball is one of baseball's last great, unheralded true stories. In 1973, Hollywood veteran Bing Russell created the only independent baseball team in America at the time, the legendary Portland Mavericks. Bing operated without a Major League affiliation while playing in a city that was considered a wasteland for professional baseball.

Untold: Breaking Point
Another chapter of the sports documentary series from Netflix. This is a story that needed to be told, about the world of tennis and mental health. In 2021, we saw tennis player Naomi Osaka speak out about it and step away from major competitions, however, this topic is nothing new for athletes - and for human beings. The focus of the production are the men, who also suffer pressure but end up being left out of the media's radar, since female representatives are more stigmatized when it comes to keeping their minds healthy. Award-winning American tennis player Mardy Fish suffered immensely to stay among the best of his generation and ended up facing serious problems both on and off the court due to nervous breakdowns and panic attacks. The directors, Chapman and Maclain Way, were very careful when dealing with the subject and delivered a good construction. Fish's story will certainly be a great inspiration for those who have gone through what he has experienced and/or are going through.

But it would be a mistake to say it's just a female version of the first documentary. Through a select group of girls participating in a federal government simulation in Missouri, this film reveals, firstly, how American politics operates. But secondly, and more importantly, it explores how an environment supposedly empowering girls can both propel and limit them at the same time, raising questions about what we understand about power and the ways to exercise it.

Documentaries about the climate crisis are never too many, but sometimes it can be challenging to find one that presents its arguments in a different and memorable way. Earth Protectors is a worthy attempt. Directed by French artist and environmental activist Anne de Carbuccia, it artistically documents her 10-year journey around the world exploring the impact of climate change in various countries, as well as the solutions undertaken to empower global citizens and address the crisis. At times, de Carbuccia and her works take more prominence than necessary, but she manages to present vital information.
