Why watch this film?

It may not seem like it at first, but 'The Art of Self-Defense' is a dark comedy that says a lot about today's world. In the movie, Jesse Eisenberg ('The Social Network') plays Corey, an insecure, lonely, and hopeless young adult who is forced to learn karate - and in the process, enters a universe of toxic masculinity. From there, the film dives into extremely current debates, albeit with a pinch of humor, turning Corey into a prototype of a hate group member (mainly those from the internet). Even though Eisenberg is playing the same character as almost always, here it helps the story told by director and screenwriter Riley Stearns. To watch while laughing, but also to worry and, if necessary, make some reflections about oneself.
