Ali & Cavett: The Tale of the Tapes

The story of a boxer's activism and friendship with a famous TV host.

Why watch this film?

"Ali & Cavett: The Tale of the Tapes" shows that "The Dick Cavett Show" is a very unique reflection of the United States in its time, because amidst deeply rooted ethnic and religious divisions, host Dick Cavett gave space to voices as frank as boxer Muhammad Ali's - who from the rings became a fierce activist for Islamism and later, ethnic integration in the United States. With its theme, it is a documentary and tribute still relevant to today's days, when African-American athletes (such as Colin Kaepernick of the NFL) are condemned for protesting against racial violence. The legendary athlete is also explored as a media figure, one of the first at the start of the television era, but it is moving when he deepens the boxer's friendship with the famous host of the popular show, which lasted decades on air. Television and media in general are the mirror of society of its time.
