Why watch this film?
In recent years, with the saturation of obvious themes about World War II, cinema has tried to look for different angles of the conflict. The excellent 'Bárbara', for example, delved into the pains of the German people. 'A Estrada 47' highlighted the presence of Brazilian soldiers in the War. And now, 'My Name Is Sara' shows the pain of Ukrainians and Poles. With stunning photography, the film already hits by bringing actors from the region. The protagonist, played by newcomer Zuzanna Surowy, is an event: it brings complexity to her character, a Jewish girl who takes refuge in the house of strangers to save herself from Nazism. It's a shame, however, that director Steven Oritt, a newcomer to fiction features, uses English as the official language. It takes away some of the magic and still leaves the tone of the film with one foot in the novelesque. Still, 'My Name Is Sara' maintains originality. After all, it's not every day that cinema highlights the pains of a Ukrainian girl.

Plot summary

Kidnapped
In Kidnapped (Rapito), Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio delves into one of the murkiest and most controversial episodes in the history of the Catholic Church, the "Mortara case". In 1851, when Jewish boy Edgardo Mortara becomes gravely ill, his Catholic nanny decides to baptize him in an emergency. However, papal law dictates that all Catholics must be raised as such, so the cardinal orders the boy to be taken and handed over to the church, against his parents' wishes, who decide to fight for him. The film recounts a controversial case that captured the attention of the rest of Europe and America, and skillfully portrays the clash of interests between the waning power of the church, Mortara's parents, and public opinion, with irreversible consequences for all involved.
Green Border
'Green Border' - In the treacherous and swampy forests that make up the so called “green border” between Belarus and Poland, refugees from the Middle East and Africa trying to reach the European Union are trapped in a geopolitical crisis cynically engineered by Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko. In an attempt to provoke Europe, refugees are lured to the border by propaganda promising easy passage to the EU. Pawns in this hidden war, the lives of Julia, a newly minted activist who has given up her comfortable life, Jan, a young border guard, and a Syrian family intertwine.
