Why watch this film?
In "Ricos de Amor," filmmaker Bruno Garotti (of the delightful "Cinderela Pop") followed the term "romantic comedy" to a tee. After all, in the story starring Giovanna Lancellotti ("Eu Sou Mais Eu") and Danilo Mesquita (from the novela "Segundo Sol"), there are practically two stories. On one side, there is the beaten romance between the two protagonists, who experience the hardships of being from different worlds. He is rich and carefree. She likes simple things. That's why the guy ends up lying about his identity to pass himself off as someone poor and from a humble family. On the other side, from this exchange of identities, the classic confusions of a situation comedy arise. Characters entering new roles, pretending to be someone they are not. The apex happens with Marcos Oliveira (the eternal Beiçola from "A Grande Família"), which draws laughs. And thus, "Ricos de Amor" works well as a romantic movie, for those who want to fall in love again with unlikely couples like those from "Uma Linda Mulher" and "Podres de Ricos," and still have fun with a comedy in the style of those late-night specials on Globo. It's for everyone's taste.

Maisa Silva, the star of SBT, adapts the classic Cinderella story with her as the lead. After being a presenter, she has solidified her career as an influencer on social media and acted in series like the remake of "Carrossel," and now she is also building a film career. The script is based on a book by Paula Pimenta, a famous author among the teenage readers - and it's that same public that the movie focuses on. Unpretentious, light and entertaining, "Cinderela Pop" does not seek to reinvent the wheel, or be faithful to the fairy tale - magics and godmothers are gone (replaced by an understanding and inventive aunt) and enters Cíntia Dorella, who wants to dictate the direction of her own life and do what she loves. A romance in measure for teenagers or those who still believe in innocent love.
The Secret Diary of an Exchange Student
Larissa Manoela, Thati Lopes, and Bruno Montaleone are well known in the Brazilian media and here they kickstart their international career by embarking on 'Diários de Intercâmbio', a national comedy with Netflix's seal. This movie was clearly made for the global market, with a theme that the United States is the epicenter of the world in contrast to the criticism that Latin America receives from North Americans. It's a movie for the young audience, which brings good points about life abroad and also about maturity. However, a demerit of the story is the protagonist's involvement with an old man. Even if it makes some sense in the narrative, it could have been inserted without the romantic interest - maybe it wouldn't have the same impact, but still, it's a bit problematic. Apart from that, the story has a great twist, which manages to be quite shocking.
Confessions of an Invisible Girl
This is the adaptation of the book 'Confessions of an Excluded, Unloved and (Somewhat) Dramatic Girl' by writer Thalita Rebouças, who also took on the screenplay for the feature film. Directed by Bruno Garotti (who had already worked with Rebouças on 'Tudo por um Pop Star'), the movie is a great example of how Brazilian teen productions are improving and following a great line. Thalita Rebouças is a well-known name in juvenile literature and little by little, she is becoming a reference in cinema as well. With a fun story, we meet Tetê's (Klara Castanho) world, a girl full of insecurities who was raised in a hostile environment. She knows bullying inside and outside the home, and when she changes schools she ends up on a journey of self-discovery. Klara Castanho does a great job for an excluded and dramatic girl, a great synthesis of adolescence, which is a complicated phase for most people. In addition to her, actors Gabriel Lima, who is Davi in the plot, and Marcus Bessa, who gives life to Zeca, also bring good performances, which escape from several clichés. 'Confessions of an Excluded Girl' addresses important themes and manages to close with an important message of self-acceptance.
Rich in Love 2
Rich in Love 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the successful Brazilian romantic comedy on Netflix, brings back the charismatic characters and love conflicts that won over the audience in the first movie. In this new journey, we are reintroduced to the protagonists Paula (Giovanna Lancellotti) and Teto (Danilo Mesquita) as they face the challenges of a long-distance relationship and seek to find their place in the world. The production deserves recognition for addressing relevant topics. Moving away from the Southeast-South axis, Rich in Love 2 bets on a plot that goes to the Amazon and addresses the culture of the indigenous peoples, in addition to criticizing corruption. It is worth noting that, albeit imperfectly, the film brings social issues to the fore, taking these themes to a wide audience through Netflix streaming. The Nature of Love
Sophia, a 40-year-old philosophy professor, has been in a stable and conventional marriage to Xavier for a decade. From gallery openings to endless dinner parties, ten years have flown by. When Sophia meets Sylvain, a craftsman renovating the couple’s new country house, Sophia’s world is turned upside down. The two begin a passionate affair fueled by their irresistible physical connection. However, Sophia comes from a wealthy family of intellectuals, while Sylvain comes from a working-class family of manual workers. As they get to know each other on a deeper level, Sophia begins to question her own values after abandoning herself to her great romantic impulses. Director Monia Chokri delivers a smart and sexy romantic comedy, infusing it with spiky energy and fresh perspective, upending genre and gender conventions.
Goyo
Goyo is a romantic film directed by Argentine filmmaker Marcos Carnevale (known for movies like Elsa & Fred). It's about a museum guide with Asperger's syndrome (Nicolás Furtado) who unexpectedly falls in love with the museum's new security guard (Nancy Dupláa), an older woman disillusioned with love. The story is appreciated for its touches of humor and the portrayal of a romantic relationship for a neurodivergent person (in this case, on the autism spectrum). However, the story is somewhat superficial and melodramatic. You'll enjoy it if you're looking for a tender, uncomplicated romance to enjoy with a partner.
Jeanne du Barry
Jeanne du Barry is a French period drama, directed and starring Maïwenn (known for The Fifth Element), about the courtesan and the last official mistress of King Louis XV (Johnny Depp) of France. The film chronicles her life from her childhood and formative years as a servant's daughter, to her rise in French society through sex, alliances, and strategic marriages. Although well-crafted, it is a very conventional drama that, in its making, invites not very favorable comparisons with Barry Lyndon. While Kubrick's classic manages to be a very subtle satire, Maïwenn's film takes itself too seriously. This, considering its representation of the female gender and the backgrounds of its two main stars, not only does not help but invites questioning the purpose of telling this story, with so little hope for its protagonist. You will enjoy it if you like period dramas with sumptuous costumes, or if you are an avid follower of Johnny Depp.
