Why watch this film?

Part supernatural mystery, part drama and part thriller, 'Silence' is Mexican director Lorena Villarreal's (‘Las lloronas’) second feature film. The movie blends a family tragedy with science fiction time paradoxes to tell a melancholic story about second chances, mixed with a pursuit and extortion plot. It's an interesting mix that may not always work, but stands out for its originality, especially considering it's a Mexico-U.S. co-production. The international cast includes actors of the likes of Australian John Noble (‘Fringe’, ‘The Lord of the Rings’), Spanish Melina Matthews (‘Negotiator’), Mexican Hoze Meléndez (‘Sueño en otro idioma’), and British Rupert Graves (‘Sherlock’).
