Who said that sports and politics aren't connected? Players Socrates, Casagrande, and Vladimir showed in the 1980s that the two topics can be intimately linked. After all, the trio led the so-called 'Democracia Corinthiana', a movement that gave strength to the public outcry against the Military Dictatorship and managed to create a movement both inside and outside of the fields. In 'Democracia em Preto e Branco', filmmaker Pedro Asbeg employs a delightful narration by Rita Lee to delve a bit deeper into this story and how a soccer player can take his influence beyond his own fanbase. Thus, even though the documentary is a gift to the Corinthians fanbase, 'Democracia em Preto e Branco' is an example of how teams, when united, can help to change the situation of a country.

Interesting, and very necessary, is the premise of 'Armed America'. Directed by Pedro Asbeg ('Democracy in Black and White') and newcomer Alice Lanari, the feature film proposes to be a documentary of cuts. First, it talks about the violent reality of three countries in Latin America: Mexico, with the constant threat of drug trafficking; Colombia with its factions and kidnappings; and Brazil, with a police force that kills and scares more than it protects. From there, we follow the story of a human rights activist in each of these countries who, against shots and weapons, fight with information, care, attention and concern. "The best weapon is to disarm those hearts that still have so much hatred," says one of the interviewees at a certain point, setting the tone. 'Armed America' has its problems and its limitations. But the need for the story goes beyond.

The Antisocial Network: Memes to Mayhem traces the path from the social network 4Chan and builds its genealogy up to Facebook and the events of January 6, 2021, in the United States. It doesn't present reflections that aren't obvious to those who have read books or watched other films about the impact of social media, but it's a good starting point to learn about how misinformation works on the internet.
Girls State
Directing duo Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss, known for the award-winning documentary Boys State, return now for Girls State. But it would be a mistake to say it's just a female version of the first documentary. Through a select group of girls participating in a federal government simulation in Missouri, this film reveals, firstly, how American politics operates. But secondly, and more importantly, it explores how an environment supposedly empowering girls can both propel and limit them at the same time, raising questions about what we understand about power and the ways to exercise it.
Earth Protectors
Documentaries about the climate crisis are never too many, but sometimes it can be challenging to find one that presents its arguments in a different and memorable way. Earth Protectors is a worthy attempt. Directed by French artist and environmental activist Anne de Carbuccia, it artistically documents her 10-year journey around the world exploring the impact of climate change in various countries, as well as the solutions undertaken to empower global citizens and address the crisis. At times, de Carbuccia and her works take more prominence than necessary, but she manages to present vital information.
