Why watch this film?
If you were looking for how many Latin American-origin superheroes there are in the movies, you could certainly count them on one hand. Directed by Ben Hernandez Bray (stunt double who, curiously, directed episodes of series like 'Arrow' and 'Supergirl'), 'El Chicano' seeks to be the answer to this gap in pop culture. The feature takes place in a Latin American community in Los Angeles, where marginalization and crime proliferate. Despite the fact that the movie takes itself very seriously (it's more 'Rendel' than 'Machete'), the script falls into the formula of superhero productions and there are some clichés of the representation of Latinos on screen. However, it is a first step in the right direction.

Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his starring debut in the descriptively titled Bloodsport. Whoever survives the bout will be crowned Kumite champion of the world…a title that has plenty of challengers with homicide in their hearts. The finale offers a duel to the death between Van Damme and reigning Kumite king Bolo Yeung. The script is based on the real-life exploits of martial arts champ Frank Dux, who serves as the film's fight coordinator.

The Order
In The Order, Van Damme plays a man accused of murder who seeks a sacred scripture in Jerusalem before it falls into the wrong hands, jeopardizing his freedom. With shades of Dan Brown and a script by Jean Claude Van Damme himself, alongside Les Weldon (screenwriter of another action star film, Replicant), the movie is what every fan of the Belgian actor wants: brawling, with a fun plot, and never boring.
