Russian audiovisual production is becoming increasingly diverse, working on different genres, styles and stories. 'Bolevoy porog' is proof of this. This survival thriller reminds of the classic 'The River Wild', starring Meryl Streep, with an interesting premise. It's not a movie that will revolutionize the genre, but the cast performances are convincing and the sound, editing and camera work convey an atmosphere of tension that transcends the limits of the screen. Thus, even though it is predictable, it is an exciting movie that should please those looking for an action thriller different from the US-Europe axis.

Plot summary
Four young Muscovites - two boys and two girls - travel to the Altai for a rafting trip on a mountain river. Cut off from civilization, face to face with nature at its wildest our heroes are not able to relax but instead are forced to fight for survival. They ask the help of a group of apparent 'sportsmen-boaters' whom they encounter on the river. These agree, but then our heroes realize that they have been taken hostage by criminals.

The characters' masks are much scarier, and it ceases to be a complete joke. It's still difficult to take the film entirely seriously, especially with this bizarre premise of Pooh and his friends seeking bloody revenge, but you can already feel more fear and, above all, immerse yourself in the wave of violence that the film promotes.
