Plot summary
Rafiki relays the legend of Mufasa to lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion a journey of misfits searching for their destiny and working together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.

This is both a beautiful love story and a story of racism. Based on James Baldwin's book (whose unfinished book inspired the movie "I Am Not Your Negro"), the film tells the story of young lovers who discover they are having a baby and plan a life together, only to be separated by institutional racism that existed in the early 1970s - which still exists today. The result is a touching and engaging story that makes us think about how much we have failed as a society. Highlighted by the performances of KiKi Layne, Stephen James and Regina King (the latter winning an Oscar and a Golden Globe for the movie) and an amazing original score by Nicholas Britell. Directed by Barry Jenkins, the same one behind “Moonlight”.

Thelma the Unicorn
A fun and tender animation directed by Jared and Jerusha Hess, creators of cult classics like Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. In fact, Thelma the Unicorn shares similarities with these films: its plot follows the titular pony, who dreams of being a singer but is underestimated due to her size and appearance, despite her talent. Her life changes when, due to an accident with paint, glitter, and a carrot, she adopts the appearance of a unicorn and becomes a sensation. It’s a simple, uncomplicated story that, through the usual expectations of the entertainment industry (appearances over talent), conveys a message of acceptance and self-esteem.
