In this new movie, Keanu Reeves plays a lawyer hired to defend the son of Renée Zellweger's character, who is accused of killing his own father. Thus begins a surprising search for the truth in a courtroom drama filled with drama, violence, and sex.
Based on the book and play “Les Liaisons Dangereuses”, this film brings together a stellar cast in a stylish and seductive adaptation directed by Stephen Frears. The cast includes actors such as John Malkovich, Glenn Close, and Michelle Pfeiffer, but there's one who, at the time, was relatively unknown: Keanu Reeves. He plays Raphael Danceny, the music teacher of Cécile (Uma Thurman).
After the “John Wick” franchise, Keanu Reeves has risen as a prominent action hero in contemporary cinema and a beloved figure among audiences. In “Replicas”, the actor returns to the science fiction genre, where he initially gained fame with “The Matrix”, under the direction of Jeffrey Nachmanoff, known for his work as the screenwriter of “The Day After Tomorrow”. The storyline draws inspiration from works such as “I, Robot”, “Transcendence”, and even the classic “Frankenstein”, adding narrative dynamism to an inherently intriguing premise. However, the execution of the script has some gaps and the direction falls short of expectations.
Already famous for “Point Break” and the “Bill & Ted” franchise, Keanu Reeves was called upon by Francis Ford Coppola to join the adaptation of Bram Stoker's great book. In the film, he portrays Jonathan Harker, the man imprisoned by Dracula – who is in love with Mina, Jonathan's fiancée. The movie was critically acclaimed upon its release and won three Oscars. However, Reeves' performance was a common weak point in the reviews. This criticism does not diminish the movie or the actor's work.
Another adaptation in Keanu Reeves' career. Here he is one of the stars in yet another version of William Shakespeare's work, directed, adapted, and starring Kenneth Branagh. One of the merits of the movie is its ability to bring the intelligence and fun of the playwright's original text to the screen, which is why it was highly praised and nominated for several awards. Unfortunately, once again they decided to pick on Reeves: he was nominated in the Worst Supporting Actor category at the Golden Raspberry Awards. Nonsense, because his performance as Don John is in line with the rest of the movie.
