Named one of the 100 best films of the century by The New York Times. Directed by Greg Mottola (Adventureland: A Memorable Summer, Paul) and co-written by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (screenwriters of Pineapple Express), Super Cool (more commonly known by its original title, Superbad) is a teen comedy that manages to balance the typical vulgarity of high schoolers with truly authentic moments, resulting in a movie that, even if it doesn't hold up so well under modern scrutiny, is still absurdly funny, or at least enough to be one of the best comedies of its kind. Partially inspired by the teenage experiences of its screenwriters (the protagonists are named Evan and Seth), the movie follows two outcast teens with only one goal for the last party before college: illegally score alcohol and have sex, though it turns out to be easier said than done. Super Cool is also relevant for marking the takeoff of several now-known Hollywood actors, particularly Jonah Hill in his first leading role, and both Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Emma Stone in their respective film debuts.
Directed by Nicholas Stoller ('Forgetting Sarah Marshall'), 'Neighbors' is a hilarious and well-dosed comedy, which knows how to balance its moments and build the timing in a very dynamic rhythm. The movie is produced and starred by Seth Rogen, which already announces the type of comedy that is to come, and alongside him has an excellent supporting cast, with Rose Byrne ('X-Men First Class') as his wife, and Zac Efron ('High School Musical'), Dave Franco ('The Other Guys') and Christopher Mintz-Plasse ('Superbad') leading the group of antagonists. The story is about a young adult couple who move to the side of a fraternity, and after unsuccessful attempts at a peaceful approach with the young people, they opt for radical actions to get them out of there. It's a niche humor that borders on pastiche, and may not please everyone, but for those who like this parodied humor of American fraternity, it's a guaranteed choice. And for those who like references, the Robert De Niro themed party scene is pure gold.
