'Lady Bird: A Hora de Voar' deals with a delicate subject, that is the relationship between mother and daughter. Not only that, but also themes such as friendship, sexuality, maturity, addressing all issues of adolescence. It's a beautiful, touching and humorous story. Actresses Laurie Metcalf and Saoirse Ronan manage to convey all the feeling of a troubled relationship to the movie. It is worth saying that Greta Gerwig achieved a lot of recognition, being nominated for the Oscar for Best Director with this, which is only her second feature film.

Originally, 'Persepolis' is a French autobiographical graphic novel, in which comic artist Marjane Satrapi tells her childhood and the beginning of her adult life in an Iran shaken by the Islamic Revolution. Here, the story was adapted to the animation format precisely by Marjane, alongside director Vincent Paronnaud. The result is one of the best animations of the 21st century, with a lot of sensitivity and good humor. Obviously, 'Persepolis' was nominated for the Oscar - and, for those reasons that only the Academy knows, ended up losing to the good 'Ratatouille'.

Are you one of those who miss the 90s? Then this movie is exactly what you need! Shot in 16mm, 4:3 aspect ratio (like old TVs) and with a photography worthy of a hipster app for image editing, 'Mid90s' delivers all the nostalgia of the time - and still wrapped up to the sound of bands like Nirvana and Pixies. With a strong teenage cast, the plot focuses on the already beaten (but still interesting) transition from childhood to adulthood, which always alternates sweet and bitter moments. Jonah Hill ('The Wolf of Wall Street') debuts in the direction and script of a feature film and the final result points to a career behind the cameras that promises to be promising. The production is from A24, the same as 'Moonlight'.

What happens when the school nerds decide to break all the rules? That's the hook for 'Booksmart', a coming-of-age comedy directed by newcomer Olivia Wilde (whom you may know from movies like 'Tron: Legacy'). Here, she joins the writers of 'Love, Simon' and 'My Spy' in an almost all-female production team. Because of this, the story overflows with authenticity and freshness, entertaining in a subgenre that already seemed saturated - and receiving many praises from critics. In general, the humor may seem too American for Brazilians, but it will certainly resonate with those more identified with US culture.
