A couple goes camping with their daughter and she disappears into the forest, without leaving a trace. From there, we follow a good thriller starring Anne Heche and Thomas Jane. Peter Facinelli - who is also an actor - ventures into directing for the second time and shows that he has potential for suspense productions. Good twists, performances and a tight story, 'Hour of Lead' is a complete movie that will please those who like a good mystery plot.
Baltimore. New Year's Eve. A talented but troubled police officer (Shailene Woodley) is recruited by the FBI Chief of Detectives (Ben Mendelsohn) to help profile and track down a disturbed individual terrorizing the city. This is the introductory story of this exciting thriller police drama To Catch a Killer. Filmmaker and screenwriter Damián Szifron (from the acclaimed Wild Tales) lays out a puzzle to show the paths of this investigation – and surprises the audience with some unexpected twists. In addition to Woodley's good performance (Big Little Lies), Mendelsohn (from the series Secret Invasion) is also one of the best elements of the movie.
Directed by Canadian Dennis Villeneuve, 'Prisoners' is his first English-language production. Though on the surface it may seem like just another thriller police movie that abounds in American cinema, it is not only grandly realized from the naturalistic vision of its director and legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins (nominated for an Oscar for this film), but also due to the script capable of taking the audience beyond typical genre films, to very dark and disturbing places of human will and morality. The cast is full of great actors with excellent work (including Viola Davis, Terrence Howard and Melissa Leo), but Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano deserve special mention.
One of the most beloved and praised films when talking about psychology is 'The Silence of the Lambs'. Although it is not the most accurate when it comes to psychological concepts, it is correct when talking about an investigator (Jodie Foster) who interviews the psychopath Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins, in his best performance). From there, she does everything she can to get into the mind of another psychopath and prevent new crimes from being committed. It is a deep movie about mind, violence and crimes with an off-standard plot that has gone down in history due to its dark and disturbing atmosphere.
It has become a classic of the police movie genre (especially for its ending) this movie starring Brad Pitt and directed by David Fincher (of 'The Social Network'). Pitt plays a detective hunting a serial killer. But the game of cat and mouse goes down dark paths of the human mind.
