This is the first chapter of the film adaptation of the vampire and werewolf book saga created by Stephenie Meyer. The production stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who became very famous across the five movies. After the literary success, the films were no different –despite negative reviews, the franchise was very well received at the box office. Twilight tells the story of a forbidden love between a vampire and a human, with the school environment as the backdrop. The narrative deals with teenage issues in a fantastical reality, where mythical creatures exist, in a town in the United States. The plot manages to be engaging and easy to relate to: a girl trying to cope with her parents' divorce and feeling out of place in her world ends up falling in love with a popular boy, setting aside her frustrations to embrace love. The story works well as a good escapism.
The second film in the franchise created by Stephenie Meyer is more interesting than the first due to the presence of Taylor Lautner. The story begins to shape the love triangle between Bella (Kristen Stewart), Edward (Robert Pattinson), and Jacob (Taylor Lautner). This time, we follow the protagonist suffering from love and trying to cope in the worst ways possible. Away from Edward, Bella retreats into her own mind and deals with the feeling of not belonging to anything in the absence of her beloved. Who helps her is her friend, the already mentioned Jacob, who is a werewolf, making the plot even more intriguing –as vampires are enemies of the wolves. A major highlight of New Moon is the soundtrack, featuring Thom Yorke, The Killers, Bon Iver, and Muse.
After all the suffering of the protagonist Bella in the previous film, New Moon, she is now more secure in her relationship with Edward. However, things will remain slightly unstable with the increasing presence of Jacob. She and the werewolf became very close in the absence of the vampire, and this prevails in the third film of the saga. This time, the viewer can better understand why the two mythical creatures don't get along and the rivalry between Edward and Jacob starts to make more sense, besides the fact that both are in love with Bella. Again, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has an excellent soundtrack that fits very well with the story.
The last book of the saga, Breaking Dawn, was divided into two films so that fans wouldn't have to say goodbye to the story so quickly. As in the other volumes of the saga, the soundtrack remains one of the major highlights. In the fourth film, Brazil is the honeymoon destination for the protagonists –yes, Bella finally manages to marry her great love. Their romance will suffer again, but this time with the pregnancy of the character. The baby, half-human, half-vampire, is draining the mother's life, but she doesn't want to terminate the pregnancy in any way. The conclusion is very engaging, leaving a lot of curiosity for the final chapter of The Twilight Saga. Even so, it's worth noting that this is one of the most conservative films in the franchise –which was a reason for criticism. The main character is submissive to her husband, which becomes extremely problematic as the story unfolds. The same happens in the book written by Stephenie Meyer, it should be said.
