A small town in California is attacked by Martians, beginning a worldwide invasion.
"After 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' built the pillars for alien stories in cinemas, the feature film 'The War of the Worlds'--H.G. Wells' story which would later be adapted by Steven Spielberg--helped construct the "big screen" catastrophe of extraterrestrial invasion stories. Under the direction of visionary director Byron Haskin (of the fun 'Robinson Crusoe on Mars'), the feature film plays with the possibilities of alien arrival on Earth and the chaos that would ensue. However, it is good to warn: the production, which is from the early 1950s, is full of simple effects compared to today's films--though still very advanced for the time. It is a production to watch and feel with different eyes."
