"Are we truly free to choose our future, or is destiny something immutable that has already been decided? The conflict between free will and determinism isn't new in cinema, there are movies like David Cronenberg's 'The Dead Zone' (adapted from Stephen King's novel) in the horror genre, and more recently 'Arrival' in science fiction. 'Volition' (whose title in English means "volition", the act of willing) takes these topics and blends them with time travel, as well as elements of a criminal thriller. The result is a movie that juggles several complex narrative lines, but manages to keep coherence and maintain an adrenaline rush throughout."
