"Eddington is a change of pace for director Ari Aster, known for horror films like Hereditary, Midsommar, and the surreal epic Beau Is Afraid. This film is about a small town of the same name that fractures during the months of the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the divide between the mayor seeking reelection (Pedro Pascal) and the sheriff opposing the health measures (Joaquin Phoenix). Amid polarization, online disinformation, and radicalization, the town descends into chaos. The film could be described as an "anti-Western," since instead of showing the triumph of "civilization" over the "wild west," we see the breakdown of a society.
