Rakitnica River. All the superlatives themselves have been spoken about. Our cleanest, clearest, coldest river that has carved out the longest and deepest canyon, separating the Bjelasnica and Visocica mountains. The river with the richest biodiversity, as experts define the richness of its flora and fauna, but - Emir Dzumhur, a young adventurer from Herzegovina, won the worldwide underwater photography contest. So he realized his dream of going "over the ocean" to America, Florida. He scuba dived to the Aquarius Underwater Laboratory, founded by Jacques Cousteau, the most famous marine and ocean explorer. He had coffee with Jacques's grandson Fabien Cousteau, who set a world record for length of stay and work underwater. With this newly gained knowledge of the need for care and preservation of the oceans, its flora and fauna, Emir returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina. He went to the Rakitnica River Canyon, climbed the rocky canyon, swam, dived and shot for six days - and all he found were two river cancers in the lifeless Rakitnica River.
