"I am Frankelda (Soy Frankelda) is a Mexican stop-motion film that expands the story outlined in the animated series Frankelda's Book of Spooks. The plot narrates the origins of Francisca Imelda (voiced by Mireya Mendoza), a young woman from 19th-century Mexico whose dreams of becoming a horror writer are crushed. Meanwhile, Prince Herneval (voiced by Arturo Mercado Jr.) of the Spooks, monsters from a dimension known as Topus Terrentus, travels to the human world in search of the writer, as her talent for creating horrifying stories is vital for his kingdom to feed on human fear and survive. It must be said that while not a perfect film, with its ambition sometimes exceeding its resources, it is a historical production, as it is the first fully stop-motion feature film made entirely in Mexico. Technically, it is a monumental achievement for Mexican cinema, with stunning visuals, great voice performances, and delightful melodies that are worth watching with the whole family."
