Why watch the movie The Wedding Banquet?
"The Wedding Banquet is a fun LGBTQIA+ romantic comedy in which a lesbian couple and a gay Asian couple make a curious exchange: they will pay for the costly in vitro fertilization for the women, if one of them marries one of them to obtain residency in the United States and maintain the appearance of a traditional heterosexual couple. However, the arrival of one of their grandmothers from South Korea shakes all their plans with the expectations of a traditional wedding banquet. Starring Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, Kelly Marie Tran, Han Gi-chan, and Joan Chen, this is a film that is enjoyable on its own within the conventions of a romantic comedy but offers deeper explorations of issues like racial and cultural identity, as well as the heavy weight of family expectations."
