Alice Júnior is a transgender youtuber who is carefree and spoiled a lot. After moving with her father to a small town where her new high school seems stuck in time, the young lady has to survive her new environment with all its prejudice in order to achieve her greatest desire: having her first kiss.
"'Alice Júnior' has been screened at international film festivals, was part of the Berlin circuit and was awarded at L.A Outfest - an organization geared towards the LGBTQ audience that produces two festival showcases in Los Angeles. Gil Baroni's film is a teen narrative about a transgender teenager having to deal with a conservative society. She has to go through this complicated phase of life and still face prejudice. The production is a typical coming of age and works well as a debate - since transphobia is very present in Brazil. The protagonist Alice was played by a trans actress - something that is still rare in the film industry - who was awarded for her performance at the Brasília Festival in 2019. 'Alice Júnior' does not shy away from some teenage movie clichés, but undoubtedly deserves recognition for addressing a topic that is still little explored in cinema and this is a great feat."
