In 1948, Edith Piaf offered a Paillard-Bolex camera to Charles Aznavour, which would always be with him. Until 1982, Charles would shot hours and hours of material which would become the corpus of his film diary.
"Charles Aznavour was one of the greatest singers in music history, with songs that transcended the physical boundaries of France. Now, Aznavour's story is told in the most straightforward, direct and sincere way possible: through collages of images captured by him with a camera he received from Edith Piaf in 1948. What we see on the screen, as a result of a magnificent editing and a good direction by Marc di Domenico, are fragments of Aznavour's life told from his own point of view, his own way of seeing the world. There is a lack of dynamism here and there, mainly due to the incessant narration that tires and makes the film even more sluggish. However, in the end, 'Le regard de Charles' is a kind of gift from the French singer to the world, after his death in 2018."
