As Natalia’s father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s—in which the brain stops producing dopamine, responsible for movement and happiness—she was coming out to her parents. She could not understand why, if they had been left-wing militants fighting for equality, they could not accept her choice.
"On paper, the documentary 'Dopamine' could seem too much: a young woman (the director) who declares herself homosexual to her parents, their denial to accept her (despite being left-wing militants that fought for equality and freedom), and the progressive degeneration of one of them, who suffers from Parkinson's. The movie explores intergenerational differences between concepts such as family, freedom and justice, and portrays how difficult it can be to reconcile those differences in the field of tolerance. The topics deserved for the director to use a more powerful and attractive format, but by themselves, they are enough to maintain interest."
