Matriarch

"A production with a dense atmosphere of terror, in which the boundaries between supernatural horrors and personal traumas blur. 'Matriarch' is the story of Laura Birch (Jemima Rooper), a woman who, after almost overdosing, decides to flee from professional pressures and accept her mother's (the frightening Kate Dickie from 'The Witch') invitation to return to her childhood home. However, little by little she discovers that the whole town hides a dark secret that also involves her and her mother. With a theme comparable to 'Macabre Relic', the movie tries to explore the damage of family trauma and, although it does not reach the level of its counterpart, it presents shocking images that will stay in memory for a long time."
