In 1982, the eruption of the Chichonal volcano, in southern Mexico, buried the Zoque indigenous town of Guayabal. After 38 years, the owners of Nuevo Guayabal rebuild their lives while the volcano and the old village lurk under the brushwood. Trinidad, a poet born on the day of the eruption, has dreams which spark a collective effort in his community to unearth their old home.

"Selected at the Morelia Festival in 2021 and awarded at FICUNAM in 2022, Pobo 'Tzu' (Noche Blanca) is a film that subtly breaks down barriers between documentary and fiction given its theme and protagonists. The feature-length film is set among the inhabitants of Nuevo Guayabal, survivors of the Chichonal volcano eruption that buried the original Guayabal in 1982. It's a story of resistance, identity, and mysticism, as a poet born on the day of the eruption has visions in a narrative that gives voice to both the people and their myths."
