Why watch the movie Lord of Misrule?
"A horror film inspired by ancient rural legends of Europe, Lord of Misrule tells the story of a little girl, daughter of a reverend in a small town, who disappeared during the harvest festival of the region. The big problem is that it is not a common disappearance: everything indicates that she was taken by the forest demon that destroys crops and that is scared away, during the festival, by the strange Lord of Chaos. From there, director William Brent Bell (from the eerie Orphan 2) plays with this folklore creating an absolutely atmospheric film, which depends a lot on the viewer being immersed in the environment to embark on the story. The film slips quite a bit at the end (recalling what also happened with the sequel to Orphan), but it shows how Brent Bell has the potential to explore new universes, in this mix of Ari Aster with folk-religious plots and strongly skimming with The Wicker Man. It's a pity that it could be better, but still, it's a breath of fresh air in a sea of increasingly similar and generic horror films."
