In a Violent Nature

In a Violent Nature is a very singular slasher for several reasons. Let's begin with its plot, which is minimalistic even by the standards of the subgenre: a group of teenagers finds a locket in the woods, awakening a buried zombie killer. He will hunt them down to recover it, committing brutal executions along the way. And that's it. What’s interesting is its narrative focus, as the camera places us almost constantly in the perspective of the monster, adopting a contemplative pace while it stalks, from a distance, its eventual victims. This has earned In a Violent Nature the label of 'Tarkovsky's slasher,' and while this is questionable and debatable, it expresses that this film will challenge the expectations of the subgenre, which could frustrate those looking for the typical "killer chasing teenagers" story. However, it also demonstrates that there is still room for experimentation within such a worn-out subgenre as the slasher, managing to generate a different type of tension in the narrative (not to mention that there are some genuinely horrifying and surprising deaths).
