Salem's Lot is the latest film adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel, this time directed by Gary Dauberman (screenwriter for horror films like It and The Nun). The plot is essentially the same: a writer returns to his childhood home in search of information and inspiration for his new work, only to find that his town faces a terrible vampiric threat. It should be noted that this film offers nothing new for those already familiar with the story from the book or other adaptations, and it isn't even close to being the best (that distinction goes to Tobe Hooper's 1979 miniseries, which was also adapted into a film). It's a nearly excessive classic vampire tale with somewhat clumsy editing. However, for those unfamiliar with King's story, it serves as a competent introduction for a new generation.
