"Heretic is a film that, blending horror and thriller, explores and questions complex themes about human civilization. The plot begins with relative simplicity: two Mormon missionaries (Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East) visit a reclusive and mysterious man (Hugh Grant, delivering one of the most surprising performances of his career) to propose he convert to their religion. However, it's a trap, as the man intends to keep them in his house to explain the contradictions and hypocrisies of the world's major religions and expose their true purpose. It's a film with big ideas, encouraging us to question what we believe (and why we believe it), from mundane things like advertising to existential matters like faith. Nonetheless, it's also a well-directed and thrilling film from start to finish that can be enjoyed as entertainment."
