"Psycho Therapy: The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer is a sharp comedy that starts with an absurd premise: a writer (John Magaro, from Past Lives), going through a creative crisis and in the middle of a separation from his wife (Severance's Britt Lower), befriends a retired serial killer (the legendary Steve Buscemi). By chance, he ends up becoming his couples therapist during the day and a consultant for his book on serial killers at night, an experiment that spirals out of control in macabrely funny ways. A film that could have been a totally predictable situational comedy is elevated not only by the performances but by the unexpected reflections it offers on married life, its passions, and the lengths we're willing to go to rekindle them."
